چکیده

Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a large family of zinc-containing proteases several functions of the MMPs were identified in various systems such as cell migration/invasion, apopto-sis/cell survival, and angiogenesis (1). Besides, MMP-2 and MMP-9 have important implications in the progression and invasiveness of several hematological malignancies, including Hodgkin lymphomas (HL), malignant non-Hodgkin lym-phomas (NHL), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (2). Functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified for the two molecules: SNP in the promoter of the MMP-2 gene (-1306 C>T) 1 and MMP-9 gene (-1562 C>T) polymorphisms (3) that have effect the expressions of the genes. The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between the SNPs and hematological malignan-cies. This cross-sectional and retrospective analysis was performed for the patients diagnosed between 2006-2007 at Mersin University Hospital. The patient group was comprised of 52 chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), 20 HL, 38 NHL, 15 acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), 14 multiple myeloma (MM) patients. The control group included 110 healthy individuals. The study was approved by the local Ethic Committee and informed consent was obtained from all patients. DNA was extracted from venous blood and used for the polymerase chain reaction, restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assays. MMP-2 genotypes were CC, CT and TT and had band sizes of 193-bp, 193/167/26-bp, 167/26-bp PCR product and MMP-9 genotypes were CC, CT and TT and had band sizes of 436-bp, 436/242/194-bp, 242/194-bp PCR product, respectively for the SNPs.

Association between two functional polymorphisms in the MMP-2 promoter and lung cancer incidence in Asian population: a meta-analysis study

Background: Numerous experiments have been performed to determine the relationship between the Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) -1306C/T and -735C/T polymorphisms and the prevalence and progression of lung cancer in diverse populations. However, due to the small sample size and the different results of previous studies, we decided to perform a general meta-analysis on all previous studies abo...

The MMP-2 and MMP-9 promoter polymorphisms and susceptibility to salivary gland cancer.

PURPOSE Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of endopeptidases that may play an important role in the development of salivary gland cancer (SGC). MMP-2 and MMP-9, members of the gelatinase protein family, are capable of degrading type IV collagen of basement membranes, and their overexpression is often associated with tumor aggressiveness and poor prognosis. The aim of this study was t...

Gene Polymorphism of Matrix Metalloproteinase 9 in Asthenozoospermic Male Subjects

Objective Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMPs) play important roles in the structural and functional properties of reproductive organs. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of C-1562T Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 (rs3918242) gene polymorphism in fertile and infertile men. In addition, we aimed to determine the association between C-1562T MMP-9 and G-1575A MMP-2 gene polymorphisms. Mate...

Matrix metalloproteinase gene polymorphisms and periodontitis susceptibility: a meta-analysis involving 6,162 individuals

We aimed to systematically investigate the potential association of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9, -3, -2, and -8 gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to periodontitis using meta-analysis. A literature search in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science was conducted to obtain relevant publications. Finally a total of 16 articles with 24 case-control studies (nine on MMP-9-1562 C/T, seven on MMP-...

Association Studies of MMP-9 in Parkinson’s Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Parkinson's disease (PD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) share several clinical and neuropathologic features, and studies suggest that several gene mutations and polymorphisms are involved in both conditions. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is implicated in the pathogenesis of PD and ALS, and the C(-1562)T polymorphism in the MMP-9 gene leads to higher promoter activity. We therefore...
